mothers2mothers (m2m) is an African NGO working towards the Global Goals of ensuring good health for all and ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030. The organization focuses on three core client groups—women, children, and adolescents—serving those living with HIV, and also those who are HIV-negative but at high risk of infection. m2m delivers services by training and employing local women living with HIV as Community Health Workers called Mentor Mothers.
To further its goal of creating a true AIDS-free generation, m2m is broadening the scope of its peer-based Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) Model.
mothers2mothers (m2m) is eliminating transmission of HIV from mothers to babies and sustaining the health of women and children with its proven Mentor Mother model. Since its inception, m2m has reached more than one million mothers across the African continent.
In sub-Saharan Africa, HIV infections are more prevalent and doctors scarcer than anywhere else in the world. With a lack of medical professionals, Mitchell Besser enlisted the help of his patients to create mothers2mothers - an extraordinary network of HIV-positive women whose support for each other is changing and saving lives.
