The United States is proud to be supporting South Africa’s leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS. On December 14, 2010, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton joined South African Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane to sign a Partnership Framework, which provides a five-year joint strategic plan to fight HIV/AIDS. PEPFAR’s financial and technical assistance will support the leadership and implementation capacity of the South African Government and civil society, improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of the response. By the end of the five-year period, the collaboration is expected to result in greater prevention efforts and expanded services for HIV and TB, and in a strengthened national health system.
