New 2nd Edition Gender Competency Brief | Defining and Advancing a Gender-Competent Family Planning Service Provider: A Competency Framework and Technical Brief
Health care providers have great potential to be powerful change agents. As they overcome biases and offer quality, gender-sensitive, transformative services, they can help clients make voluntary and informed decisions about their family planning needs, improving both gender equality and reproductive health outcomes.
HRH2030 and USAID’s Office of Population and Reproductive Health in Washington are excited to share the second edition of the global Gender Competency Framework for Family Planning Service Providers to improve gender-awareness in health workers.
Health ministries and HRH professionals will find this resource useful to enhance or add gender dimensions to cadre or program-specific competency frameworks. This framework may also be useful for incorporation into health workers' pre-service education curricula, job descriptions, or performance management systems.
Building on the 2018 edition, this new version is full of updates including:
- Examples of demonstrating gender competencies from the Philippines and Ethiopia
- Guidance on incorporating gender competencies into the health system
- A resource spotlight providing key materials for more information and training
