Fact sheet: Accelerating Children’s HIV/AIDS Treatment (ACT)

Post date: May 2017

In 2015, 1.8 million children were living with HIV/AIDS and only half had access to life-saving antiretroviral therapy (ART). Without treatment, 50% of HIV-positive children will die before their second birthday, and 80% before turning 5 years old. PEPFAR, the world’s largest supporter of children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, supports nearly 1.1 million children on ART globally.

Healthy children who can pursue their dreams will grow economies, create jobs, and strengthen their communities for decades to come. PEPFAR and the Children's Investment Fund Foundation jointly led the Accelerating Children's HIV/AIDS Treatment (ACT) initiative, a public-private partnership that enabled 562,000 children to receive ART in the nine ACT high-priority countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
